“The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come . . .” Song of Salomon 2:12
These new flowers in my kitchen window were volunteers. One little stem was laying in the dirt of a different plant I had purchased. I wasn't sure what it was, but it had a little bud on it, and I wanted to see if it would grow.  Not only did it grow, It took over the whole pot and showed up in other pots!  They bloomed that morning in a greater number of flowers than usual.
I took pictures at different angles and lighting to use for reference. Then I sketched different combinations and formats to decide on the grouping. I started with a darker, grayish-green background, thinking it would set the flowers off.  But I changed my mind and added brighter blues to create a more peaceful setting. I had to work at creating the softer background leaves. It took a few tries to get the effect I wanted.
The flowers started out a bit stronger, with more orange and darker pinks.  Again, I wanted a peaceful and reflective mood, so I softened the colors with pinks and violets.  The end result reminded me of a painting I did as a young adult titled "Silent Song."

Christian artist, Fawn McNeill, creates handcrafted original works of nature and inspirational art.  Some of her subjects include angels, florals, seascapes, landscapes, and      animal portraits. Her paintings are mostly rendered in realistic impressionism, although she does enjoy creating knife paintings and playful, mixed-media pieces.
"I'm originally from Montana, but moved extensively while growing up. I've had great adventures in the Rockies, the Pacific Islands, and now Florida!  I began drawing and painting when I was 12. I started selling my work when I was 17. I began teaching art at 21, and 40 years later I still love it."
