Wildlife and nature artist, Fawn McNeill Barr, is inspired by God’s creation. Her ideas begin with spending a day at the beach, soaking up colors in a garden, going to a zoo, or exploring a ranch. She uses her plein air studies (works done on location), sketches, and photographs to create her handcrafted original works.
She creates a variety of subjects in different styles. Her obsession often involves strong colors and texture. She creates smooth illusions of texture with details, or palette knife paintings loaded with tactile texture. She also enjoys mixing it up and having fun by adding found objects to her pieces. Fawn was self-taught for many years as a young adult. At age 17 she began selling her realistic animal portraits and by 21 she was teaching classes. Seventeen years after high school, Fawn went to Florida Atlantic University to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, graduating with honors (majoring in studio art and painting) with educational components. She also met the requirements of the state of Florida to teach in public schools. For more than twenty-seven years, Fawn taught art lessons at various galleries and public schools before she opened her own teaching center and art gallery in Okeechobee, Florida (Fawn’s Studio). Then, after closing her gallery due to the pandemic, she offered classes at Okeechobee Main Street’s Art Alliance. She currently teaches small groups in her home studio. She is a member of Okeechobee Main Street’s Art and Culture Alliance and the Treasure Coast Plein Air Artist’s Association. Fawn uses her maiden name, McNeill, as her pen name to honor her father who died in a car accident before she turned 3 years old. She signs her name with a dove (symbolic of the Holy Spirit) to thank the Lord for her creative gift. |
